Acciaierie d'Italia under extraordinary administration: Environmental restoration activities continue

18/07/2024

Milan, July 18th, 2024 - Regarding the news published today by various media outlets concerning the investigation on former CEO Lucia Morselli, it is important to emphasize that the reported issues pertain to the past. Since the appointment of the new extraordinary commissioners, immediate actions have been taken to verify and ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of environmental mitigation measures. These measures have been implemented since 2014 in accordance with DPCM (Decree of the Prime Minister) March 14, 2014, DPCM September 29, 2017, and related decrees, with the aim of meeting the limits established by the law.

Therefore, the objective of the current extraordinary management has been from the beginning to implement all necessary measures to ensure the protection of employees and the community as a whole. In this context, should be considered the decision of the Commissioners to abandon the appeal to the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) under which the previous Manager did not carry out the Health Impact Assessment (VIS) as required by the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security and the Ministry of Health. On the contrary, by forgoing the appeal, the commissioners were able to produce the VIS, which was submitted to the relevant ministries within the required timeframe. This allowed the competent authorities to perform their evaluations as part of the renewal process for the Integrated Environmental Authorization.
